2002 - Madrid, Spain

A few days in the Spanish capital.

View 2002 Madrid on nzhamsta's travel map.

Most of the days were spent wandering around the historical centre of the city, past the Royal Palace and so on.

The Plaza Del Toro Monumental (the main bullfighting ring) in Madrid.

A statue of King Alonso XII, Parque del Retiro.

The Palacio de Cristalo in the Parque del Retiro.

The front door of the Palacio Real.

The Teatro Real (Opera House).

The gardens next to the Palacio Real.

The Plaza Mayor in Madrid, with a coin and bank note flea market happening.

People protesting about something in the Plaza Puerta Del Sol.

The food is great although the Spaniards eat very late. But hey, when in Rome (or Madrid)...

I did a day trip to Salamanca. This is a very old university city about 200 km west of Madrid. One of the things to do here is to spot the frog on the university door.

One of the many very old buildings in Salamanca.

One of the two cathedrals in the city.

The Plaza Mayor, one of the finest squares in all of Europe.

The front door of the University of Salamanca.

The skyline of Salamanca from the bridge on the Tormes River.
