Wednesday 20 August - A long drive from Hammerfest to Rovaniemi in Finland. Dennis gave a long talk about our pending trip to the USSR and all the tricks of surviving there including changing money into roubles (aka Barneys). Much cheaper beer in camp bar, it being a third of the Norwegian price.

Thursday 21 August - Another long drive, this time south to Jyväskylä. Upon arrival in camp we collected our clothes from Dennis. He would collect these (aka "rubbish") and sell them in the USSR and use the funds as the food kitty. I was given jeans, a sweat shirt, a denim jacket and an umbrella, all stuff that a normal tourist would take on holiday with them, just in case an inquisitive border guard looked in my bag.

Friday 22 August - Free morning. Afternoon drive to Helsinki, wet afternoon and evening.

Saturday 23 August - A free day in the city. We wandered shops but the weather was miserable so did not stay out long.

Sunday 24 August - A culture day in city. We visited Sibelius' Memorial, the Olympic Stadium (1952), and the Temppeliaukio Kirkko (Rock Church). After lunch, big bus clean before heading to USSR the following day. Afternoon volleyball match, chess in the camp's cafe, and paperwork for the next day.
