Rotorua is one of NZ's premier tourist cities and the prices reflect that. Entry prices to the various geothermal areas are extortionately high $35 - $40.
The Whakarewarewa Thermal Village has walkways around the perimeter that are just as good as the inside areas.

There is a good walkway around the lake front that takes in the Rotorua Museum and Government Gardens.

There is also a gondola to the top of a decent sized hill on the outskirts of the city and the views from the top are impressive.

Near to Rotorua is Lake Tarawera. This is the site of the Mt Tarawera eruption in the late 1800s that destroyed the famous Pink and White Terraces. It is very scenic, however the sun was not playing ball with my photos.

Two days is enough in the area so on Sunday I packed up my tent and went back to Auckland.
