After the snorkelling trip had finished I went to Phuket for a week of relaxing by the pool at my favourite small hotel in Patong.

I also decided to do a sea kayaking trip with John Gray Sea Canoes.

Taking night photos from a moving canoe is not easy.
In all, a nice day doing something a bit different.
At some time during the week I must have bitten by a mosquito. When I got home to Auckland I was feeling awful, to the extent that I went to work on the Monday morning and stayed about an hour. The doctor took blood samples and they automatically test for malaria and dengue fever if you tell them you have been to the tropics. Did not go into work on Tuesday. Went in on Wednesday for just long enough to approve and pay the company's wages. More blood taken. Thursday, still no good. Friday, the doctor sent me to Auckland Hospital for more tests and they kept me in overnight. They finally confirmed dengue fever on Friday as I gather it takes a while for the test to confirm the disease. By Monday I was much better and could go back to work, much to the amusement of the guys in the office.
