It's a long way from Auckland to Bologna via Melbourne and Dubai.
The flights were very good as you would expect from Emirates. We had three hours or so in Dubai and then a very long drive around the airport to get to the plane (it seemed that we were driving to Bologna rather than flying). The flight from Dubai crossed over western Iran, eastern Turkey and the Balkans.
The mountains of south west Iran.
The lake formed by the Kazemi Dam in Western Iran.
Another lake in Iran.
Lake Urmia in western Iran
Upon arrival we checked into our B&B in the city centre and then had a walk up the main street to the Piazza Maggiore.
The Via dell'Indipendenza (and a wandering hand)

The Palazzo dei Notai.
The Bascilica di San Petronio in the centre of the city.
On our way back we heard some music so decided to investigate and found these dancers.

In all, I liked Bologna. It is an easy introduction to Italy, is small enough to walk around and has good food.
