It's a long way from Auckland to Bologna via Melbourne and Dubai.
The flights were very good as you would expect from Emirates. We had three hours or so in Dubai and then a very long drive around the airport to get to the plane (it seemed that we were driving to Bologna rather than flying). The flight from Dubai crossed over western Iran, eastern Turkey and the Balkans.

Upon arrival we checked into our B&B in the city centre and then had a walk up the main street to the Piazza Maggiore.

Sunday 18 September
After breakfast we carried on with our walk around.

Sunday 19 September
We went up to the Santuario Madonna di San Luca on the touristy train that leaves from the Piazza Maggiore.

The Portico di San Luca is nearly 4km long and is thought to be the world's longest.

In all, I liked Bologna. It is an easy introduction to Italy, is small enough to walk around and has good food.
