Monday 15 August

An early start in order to catch our flight over to Kuching. The flight was fine bur was slightly delayed.
The Waterfront Hotel is large ugly building on the waterfront, right behind the textile museum. This did not exist in 2010 when I was here previously.

Dinner was at James Brookes on the waterfront and was very tasty indeed although we did get chased inside by a tropical thunderstorm that did not last very long.

Tuesday 16 August

Another early start as we had booked a tour to visit various places.

Our first stop was at the Semenggoh Wildlife Centre. We arrived in tiem for breakfast and saw a few coming down to the feeding station. This included a large alpha male.

After that we went to a long house at Kampung Annah Rais. Is is an odd mixture of traditional building materials (basically bamboo) and modern concrete with aluminium joinery. It was interesting to see how the Dyak people live.

From there we went to the Fairy Caves. Theese are huge caves cut into the cliffs. We started to walk in but there were too many stairs so we gave up after a few minutes and rested outside in a small shop with a cold drink.

From there we went back to the hotel for the customary afternoon nap. The pool was very cold as it sits in the shade all day.

Dinner was in a small place recommended by the tour guide. It was okay, nothing special.

Wednesday 17 August

A day of wandering around the town. We crossed over the new bridge but couldn't get very far as there are significant builing and road works just over the bridge.

Dinner was back at James Brookes. No rain this time.
Kuching is a great place to visit. Samll enough to walk around and with decent food options.
