Sunday 12 November - We arrived in Panzhihua at 5.45am and Andy, Ting Ting and the truck were waiting for us. We drove to Lijiang through some spectacular scenery including crossing the Yangtze at one of the many dam construction sites. Our hotel was buried deep in the old town and it was easy to get lost trying to find it.

Monday 13 November - Spent most of the day wandering around the old city of Lijiang. There are superb views from pagoda on the top of the Lion Hill. The new part of the city looks like any other Chinese city, but the old town is unique and has lots of character, canals, bridges, tile roofs, bars and restaurants. After dinner, a big night was had at the Sexy Tractor Bar which has to be the best name ever for a bar. The Irish owner was having a great time.

Tuesday 14 November - Further wanderings around both the old town and the new town. I somehow found my way on the other side of the old town, not a tourist to be seen but a couple of very nice looking hotels.
More of the old town and the Yu River.

Modern Lijiang.
Lijiang at night.
In all, Lijiang is a great place. The First Bend Hotel is okay but had shared bathrooms with classic Chinese toilet stalls, i.e. a squat with no doors.
